Changing Face of Traffic Management in Scotland
Published on 24 Jul 2023

The traffic management industry in Scotland has undergone a significant change with the merger of Class One TM and the traffic management division of HBS.

The two businesses, who are both part of the Chevron Group of companies, completed the merger on 1 st July and now operate as Class One Traffic Management, delivering traffic management services across Scotland. Chairman and founder of Class One TM, Mike Healey commented: “This is a very exciting time in the future growth of Class One TM. We have been in business for over 30 years and have a portfolio of key customers that includes high-speed operators, utilities providers, local authorities and event organisers. HBS has a 20-year history, operating in Scotland and Northern Ireland, with a similar pedigree of customers.

Individually, Class One TM and HBS have been two of the leading providers of traffic management in Scotland. Through the integration, we have combined the skills, experience and expertise from both businesses to strengthen our position and deliver a first-class traffic management service to our customers throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland.”

To coincide with the merger, Class One TM is undergoing a rebrand which will see their existing brand redefined and a new look brand emerge.

“We are really proud of our new image,” adds Mike. “Class One TM and HBS are part of the Chevron Group which in turn is part of a wider global infrastructure safety group, Ramudden Global. Our new brand visually links us and gives us access to a global network that we can capitalise on to improve the services we provide to our customers.

Already, as part of this network, we are bringing industry-leading technology to Scotland. We have introduced digital signage and incursion warning technology to high-speed and low-speed customers, and we now offer auto-green portable signs. We have been following the launch of the new Enhanced Mobile Carriageway Closure (EMCC) technique in England and liaising with our colleagues in Chevron TM who developed EMCC with a view to bringing this technique to Scotland. This technique has been described as a game-changer by industry experts in England. We also offer additional services including VRS, Vehicle Restraint Systems and arboricultural services.”

Since the merger, Class One TM operate 5 depots in Stirlingshire, West Lothian, Dumfries & Galloway and Perthshire in Scotland and Belfast in Northern Ireland.

“Our depot network across Scotland allows us to offer a regionalised services to our clients,” continues Mike. “This ultimately means that we can offer faster response times and greater value for money. We are also a Lantra- accredited training provider and use our base at Bonnybridge in Stirlingshire to train and develop new and existing employees seeking to build long-term careers in traffic management. This is a very exciting time for Class One TM. We are really looking forward to a long and successful future, working closely with our clients to provide professional and innovative traffic management services which keep road workers safe, minimise disruptions and delivers operational efficiencies.”
